Zimbabwe care home worker with faked visa is an asset says judge

A ZIMBABWEAN woman who came to the UK on a six-month visitor visa in 2002 bought fake papers so she could stay here and work, a court has heard.

Sharon Moosa worked illegally in care homes in London and Plymouth, and from May 2007 was employed at the Homelands Nursing Home in Horrabridge, where she was highly regarded.

But she was arrested on July 7 this year with a false visa and a fake National Insurance card, for which she paid several hundred pounds.

Plymouth Crown Court heard that as a result she had lost her job and was staying with a female friend in Albert Road, Stoke.

Moosa, who admitting possessing false identification with intent, was told by Judge Francis Gilbert QC that if she had applied for residency she might well have been allowed to stay.

He said: "Everyone speaks extremely highly of you, and you are a hard and conscientious worker.

"I hope you will be allowed to stay lawfully; you will be an asset."

He imposed a four-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months, and ordered Moosa to stay at her current address for 28 days. thisisplymouth
