Polygamous octagenarian, 80, arrested for wedding secretly

A polygamous octogenarian based in Bindura has been arrested for wedding secretly after the first wife blew the cover of her husband who has 42 children with five women.

Michael Kunaka, 80, was arrested after his first wife Margaret, 78, sold him out for fear of losing two houses they bought together in Bindura and Harare.

The octogenarian was initially sentenced to 6 months in jail but three were suspended for five years by magistrate Jackie Munyonga.


A further three months were set aside on condition that he pays $100.

It is the state’s case that that Margaret reported her husband to the police after he secretly married his second wife, Rowesayi under the Marriages Act Chapter 5.11 which ties a man to one wife.

Kunaka had married Margaret in 1962 under customary marriage. But last year, Kunaka pretended that he was ill and his second wife, Rowesayi took him to a hospital but they went to get married. But Margaret got wind of the arrangement are reported to the police which led to Kunaka's arrest.

Kunaka and Margaret have 12 children.

Men beware of these money mongers. This man is digging a grave for his wife who bore him 12 children. They say you dig your own grave but in this case its not his but the wifes. This other woman wanted to marry to inherit all the property these two worked for. Shame on you money monger.
